The bolivian pantanal

with Puerto Bush

The bolivian pantanal with Puerto Bush is part of Otuquis National Park.

Within the bolivian Pantanal, there are two nature reserves: ANMI San Matias and Otuquis national park, these two reserves help better protect the Bolivian Pantanal.

If we compare the eco-tourism of the bolivian pantanal and the brasilian pantanal the bolivian side is much less visited.

It is possible to visit the Bolivian part of the Pantanal from Santa Cruz or Puerto Suarez. Currently, there are no tour operators in Puerto Suarez, so all tours must be booked from Santa Cruz. Amboro Tours offers various tours in the Bolivian and Paraguayan Pantanal (including Puerto Bush, Rio Paraguay, and Rio Negro). Click the link below for more information.

Our offerings cover extensive areas of the Otuquis National Park in Bolivia. Upon request, we can also arrange other tours to observe the Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus).

The Pantanal and the rivers Negro and Paraguay, compared to the Brazilian part, are visited much less by tourists in the Bolivian area. Within this region, there are two nature reserves: San Matias in the north and Otuquis in the south. These two national parks help better protect the Bolivian Pantanal compared to the Brazilian Pantanal.

Overall, the Pantanal is a huge, gently sloping basin that collects water flowing from the high-altitude areas (Altiplano) and slowly drains it through the Paraguay River. The Pantanal is located in the Paraná-Paraguay basin and encompasses a vast river delta filled over the years by the erosion of the surrounding rivers. The elevation of the area varies from 80 to 150 meters above sea level. Annual rainfall ranges from 1,000 to 1,500 mm per square meter, with significantly more rain falling between November and March compared to the rest of the year.

Among the rarest inhabitants of the Pantanal are the marsh deer (Blastocerus dichotomus) and the giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis). Some regions of the Pantanal also harbor the following endangered or threatened species: the Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus), endangered due to smuggling; the crowned solitary eagle (Buteogallus coronatus), the maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus), the bush dog (Speothos venaticus), the South American tapir (Tapirus terrestris), the giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla), and the Yacare caiman (Caiman yacare).

It is possible to visit the Bolivian part of the Pantanal from Santa Cruz or Puerto Suarez. Currently, there are no tour operators in Puerto Suarez, so all tours must be booked from Santa Cruz.
