Botanical Garden
of Santa Cruz

The botanical garden (Jardin Botanico) of Santa Cruz Bolivia is about 186 hectares. It is a place where visitors have real chances of observing wild slosth, monkeys and many birds.

This natural reserve  is a member of the Association of Botanicals Gardens

(ALCJB) and it presents works  for Conservation Gardens Jarden. Its international code  is SCRUZ.

The first botanical garden in Santa Cruz was originally located in the banks of Pirai River. However after the rivr overflowed  in the the year 1980 it was destroyed.

The sub-humid forest of the plain lands of Santa Cruz and the seasonally flooded Chaco forest of the department of Santa Cruz are the two large plants formations, that converge in the 186-hectare Botanical Garden of Santa Cruz. And represent a part of the great beauty of the East Bolivian.

The Technical scientific research, the collection and the taxonomic classification of specimens with the reproduction of unique species are factors that we develop to guarantee the enrichment and perpetuity of this privileged region. 

This natural destination is  recreation with a programmatic and systematic orientation of those who visit us. We are an institutional with the objective of  environmental education.

This is why it is very important the participation of schools, universities and companies who should be the protagonists to define and transfer strategies of preservation of our environment.

This touristic destination  of Santa Cruz has its own spaces where training events in big groups can be teach. These are  auditoriums and other facilities.

The Botanical Garden of Santa Cruz contains:

Chaco Forest, with meadows and seasonally flooded smaller trees. Its vegetation is composed of thorny trees and characteristic cacti.

Transition forest, with low and sparse forest, an area that has intermediate vegetation between the Chaco Forest and the Subtropical Forest. It is the largest area in the botanical garden, where some plants adapt to seasonal dryness in the forest floor and on tree branches.

Lagoon, where we can admire aquatic plants, waterfowl, and migratory birds.

Entry Fee: 10 (Or more )Bolivianos per adult,  Childrens 5 Bs. 

Open: Monday-Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

What To Bring 

- A Cap or a Hat  ( No to be used under the trees or branches)

- Raincoat

- Insect Repellents

- Long-sleeved shirt- Pants Light colours 

  Mosquitoes are especially attracted by dark colours)

- Passport (Original) Or identifications documents valid in Bolivia

- Plastic bags  to protect whatever you do not want to get wet

- Trekking Shoes or others proper Shoes.

- Bring your own bottled water and meals

The trails; most trails are not marked. At the entrance point ask for a map of the trails (senderos)
