Short description of "Las Lomas de Arena" (Sand Dunes)

This park was opened to the public on September 7, 1990. It has an extension of 13,326 hectares and an area of approximately 3,000 to 4,000 sand dunes.

The formation of the Sand Dune  according to some theories should due the erosive action of winds from the north, encouraged by the process of deforestation that caused the first expansion of agriculture in the area known as the Integrated  North of Santa cruz

Until a couple of years in the middle of the Sand Hills existed natural pools which were the main attraction for visitors. Now according to information these pools have dried at least in time of no rain.

These formations of sund dunes  is a phenomenon that is  increasing its size.  Its  huge need for more spece  is slowly covering trees and even houses. The authorities do not take any action thereon, and it is more it seems that they ignore the situation.
