Amboro National Park - North Side
From The City of Santa Cruz
-------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Day 0 Night At 07:30 we pick you up from your place to drive you on a paved highway through out several towns in the northern of the department of Santa Cruz towards to a point located about 1 1/2 hours away There, will be waiting for us the rest of the team that will make this trip possible. Amboro park on the North side has five main entry points. These are; Mataracu, La Chonta, Macuñucu, Saguayo and Ichilo. Some official entry points are more complicated than others. But all are located at about the same distance from the city of Santa Cruz. The closer would be Saguayo and La Chonta the farther is Ichilo. According to the conditions of access, the request of the visitor and the time available, Amboro Tours will predetermined the entry point . What the visitor is looking to see and experience is always the most important and we will try to please them, According to the real possibilities of the moment. From this meeting point with the rest of the team, we will begin another part of this trip in a 4x4 vehicle on dirt roads o asphalt. This second part in vehicle will last 1, 2 or 3 hours depending on how far is possible to get in the 4x4. This will depend among other things on the time of the year and the conditions of the access roads to Amboro park. After approximately one hour in the vehicle we will start to cross rivers or streams and maybe getting into the ANMI (Integrally Maneged Natural Area). This site will vary according to the park entrance. Usually the road for vehicles ends near the rangers´camp or close to the "Red Line." The Red Line is an open path with a machete, in parts visible to the naked eye. The red line separates the communities from central part of the park. And is prohibited human settlements and / or any activity or means that harm the nature. The aforementioned drive in vehicle may vary and / or not reach the main river that is generally where the natural boundary begins NIMA. Where the vehicle arrives will depend on road conditions at the time of the trip, which may vary due to weather and other last minute factors. It possible in rainning season, November to March, that some parts of the road, described aboved, become muddy and slippery so we would have to proceed on foot or horseback for about 1 hour until the main river. Also after a big rain the water level of streams and major rivers may be too high, in which case it is not possible to cross by car or foot, so we may have to find others means to cross it All this makes the trip more difficult or risky, yet also more exciting Almost always, even in the rainy season, the only major problem to get to the park is the main river, when it is over flooded after a heavy rain. Which is known by the local word of "Turbión". In this case may have been used a canoe to cros it
From the main river the rangers´ camp is a distance of about 1 ½ hour walk.
The camp of the rangers is next to the "Red Line" and / or where the forest begins. From here the trail pentrates more inside, to becomes virgin forest. In the dry season April to Octuber. And / or with good access to the park. The hiking in the forest on one day trips can be about 2 to 4 hours or if the visitor´s group or prefers to walk less it is also possible, as mentioned before, this all always depends on the prevailing conditions. Some times although not always, in raining season and when it has been rainning for hours, to get inside or outside the park, the time walking in the forest or out side the forest, is approximately 6 hours. During this tour we will be assisted by a guide who will explain about the lush vegetation and wildlife of the park. Visitor questions about this environment are welcome. These trails generally go through natural pools of crystalline water, large and small waterfalls, streams and other beautiful and interesting places in the Bolivian Amazon. In the natural pools visitors can swim. On the first day the hikings in the trails to the pools, streams or waterfall may last 1, 2 or 4 hours. So for the 4 hours hikes of one day, we need to reach red line around noon. And this is possible assuming we do not hve major difficulties in the way. Despite the one-day trip to the park Amboro is short, taking into account the time needed to arrive and leave the park. In a one day you can get a good overview of what this natural reserve Although it is clear that Amboro Tours do not guarantee at any time, the observation of any trace or the sighting of any animal, the possibilty exist. If we are "lucky" we may see more the one specie of monkey To experience this very special environment we need to be with the utmost silence and peace of mind possible so we can have our main´s senses alerts such as the Sound, Smell and Sight. After this wonderful and unforgettable experience, we walk back to where we left the vehicle, returning the same way we came and then continue to the city of Santa Cruz where we will leave you at your hotel.
