In the central part of one of the main avenues which is called primer anillo (first ring) you can see some interesting trees species like the beautiful "Tajibo" (Tabebuia serratifolia). This tree about each june changes its leaves for flowers. Also in these green areas in the middle of the primer anillo is also possible to appreciate another big tree called "toborochi" o "palo borracho" (Chorisia speciosa) The tree trunk of this specie has a special shape, worthy of being observed. The "Toborochi" blooms a few months of every year. Still going on the first ring, is striking (for those who know about the high value of these trees) to see about 20 large "Mahogany" (Swietenia macrophylla) All togher in down town of the chaotic city of Santa Cruz. Going out of the segundo anillo (second ring) It is easy to realize the bad planning of the streets and avenues of the city. And the great neglect on caring of public spaces and green areas. It gives a bad image to anyone passing through these streets. This situation far from improving the quality of life of its inhabitants may cause sadness to them. The central plaza of the city, in the year 2004 under the administration of a mayor named Roberto Fernandez, was remodeled or redesigned. This meant the sacrifice of several large trees which had many years of existence. Also during this modification of the main square, many and big branches of anscient trees were chop.
As if it were not sufficient depredation in the main square, large green areas of grass were replaced with tiles or cement. Nowadays, in different public green areas, the city hall have used and is using the same method of removing the grass to replace it with concrete or stones The result of these actions is that the green areas with trees have become areas of cement and no trees, which helps to the overheating environment increasing the stress of passersby whether they are on foot or by vehicle.
