Cajones Del Ichilo is formed by montains on both sides of the Ichilo river. "Ichilo" is an official entry point and park ranger´s cabin is located from a short distance to Ichilo river, which is the border with Carrasco National Park. The park ranger´s site in Ichilo is located 147 Kms. from the city of Santa Cruz. And only 117 are paved. To get in the ANMI (Integrally Managed Natural Area) is neccesary to cross the Moile river wich has a bridge. Outside, but specially within the ANMI the scenario is the same that Macuñucu, Mataracu and the others official entries. The communities are entirely populated by inhabitants from Potosi, Oruro, Sucre, La Paz or others places of the high lands of Bolivia. Also here the people appear to be very impoverished; however, in reality almost each family owns a minimum of 50 hectares of land within the ANMI, 50 or more head of cattle, a home or hut within the ANMI, and one or two brick homes in either a small town, in a larger city that is a few kilometers from the park, or in Santa Cruz. In this area there is also cabins for visitors managed by the farming community, but the lack of experience and the apparently little interest of the people in charge of this place and / or the non-existence of any coordination, between the ONGs that helped to buit these cabins with the Tour Operators in the City of Santa Cruz, does not allow the proper use of this infrastructure. One of the places that is or was possible to visit is the Guacharos´ cave (Steatornis caripensis) The possible existence of activities related to drug trafficking and illegal timber extraction make this area a place rarely visited by people interested in ecotourism. Amboro National park North Side
It is an area that despite its proximity to the city of Santa Cruz is very little visited. Almost all tourism in north of the Amboro is just 3 kms within the Red Line. This Red line separates the Integrated Management Area of the Park (ANMI) with the heart of the park. This comprises about 400,000 hectares. The Northern part of Amboro is Tropical and consists of Rainforests, Amazon basin and many eco-systems. It contains the lower part of what is the beginning of the first hills in the park. The places are not difficult to hike because is possible to do it parallel to a streams. To get into small valleys within the park, the walks are along the edges of these hills. The North Side of this park is full of unvisited zones. Comparing the most representative vegetation of this place with the jungles of Madidi Park or Noel Kempff park in Bolivia. And especially with the south side of the same Amboro park, the difference is noticeable. After a tour of one day inside the red line, you will notice the existence of a large number of streams, natural pools, rivers and others peculiarities, due to the topography of this area. And the existence of water sources within the park. Which empties its water on the North side due to the difference in altitude. Because the average heigh in the South side is 800 meters above sea level. And the Nothern part is on an average heigh of 350 meters above sea level But what it calls more the attention overall is the quality of the Amazon forest, which seems to be more dense and higher than in other National paks. About birds, Amboro park contains more species than the whole country of Costa Rica. The birds in Amboro are easy to listen, but difficult to see because the dense forest. In mammals the North part of Amboro is rich because it has most of the species of Amazon living in this park. All this tends to give the visitor a higher satisfaction.
